UP Mindanao provides 7 LIDAR Maps for Comval Province

Compostela Valley Province – University of the Philippines-Mindanao has recently given the province of Compostela Valley a total of seven (7) “Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) Maps”, one of the most important components of “Geo-SAFER Southern Mindanao Project”.

During the Regular Employees’ Convocation Program on last April 22, 2019 at the provincial capitol, PDRRMO Chief Joseph Randy Loy had announced and presented to Provincial Administrator Virgilia S. Allones and PG Department Heads during the Awarding Reenactment the seven of nine Geo -Hazard / LIDAR Maps in the river basins that stretch across different parts of Compostela Valley Province.

Under the “Geo-SAFER Mindanao Project”, UP Mindanao and PLGU Comval partnered under the signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the development of “Geo-informatics for the Systematic Assessment of Flood Effects and Risk towards a Resilient Southeastern Mindanao” (Geo-SAFER Southeastern Mindanao) was set up to keep the lives of the people who are at risk of calamity.

The MOA was signed by Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy for Comval Province and UP Mindanao Chancelor Dr. Sylvia B. Concepcion, where its formal discussion is to provide PLGU Comval with a total of 2.3 Million to UP Mindanao for additional funding.

Among the newly awarded reenactment were Assistant Provincial Administrators (APA) Fernando Juab and Placido Alcomendras Jr. and PG Department Heads: PPDo Chief Romeo Celeste, PAGRO Chief Minda Agarano, PHRMDO Chief Lara Zaphire Kristy N Bermejo, PENRO Eugene Alaba, PGSO Chief Arceli Timotimog, PTO Chief Nora Cagas, PBO Chief Eva Jean Licayan, PACCO Chief Nen Melendres, and others (Sean Seismundo, IDS Comval)
