PAG-ASA BRIGADE HAS ITS NEW COMMANDER
Maco, Compostela Valley Province— The 1001st Infantry (Pag-Asa) Brigade hold its Change of Command ceremony on July 10, 2018 at the brigade headquarters, Sitio Quarry, Barangay Mapaang, Maco, Compostela Valley Province.
The ceremony was presided-over by MGen Noel S Clement AFP, Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army.
During the event, BGen Erwin Bernard L Neri AFP, Commander, 1001st Infantry Brigade relinquished his command to his “Mistah” (classmate) Col Gilbert F Saret INF (GSC) PA, the current Deputy Brigade Commander of 1001st Brigade.
Attending the ceremony were Comval Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, District-II Congressman Ruwel Peter S. Gonzaga, different provincial and municipal officials from the the provinces of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley and Agusan del Norte.
The ceremony was also graced by various dignitaries from different LGUs, Barangay Captains, media and civilian sector in the Brigade’s “Area of Responsibility” (AOR). Also present were commanders of operationally-controlled units and PNP counterparts.
BGen Neri, the outgoing Commander, received numerous recognitions for various accomplishments during his stint at the 1001st Brigade from August 29, 2017 to July 10, 2018.
BGen Neri’s exceptional ability in campaign planning and adeptness on TRIAD operations has resulted to major setbacks on the strength and armed capabilities of the communist terrorists in the unit’s AOR.
Neri’s time, the brigade was able to conduct various combat operations and other security operations which resulted to the dismantling of Section Committee 27, Sub-Regional Committee 2, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee; the downgrading of GF2, SRC2, SMRC; twenty three (23) encounters with five (5) CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) killed; thirty four (34) CNTs apprehended/captured; surrender of 219 CNT regular members; 601 Milisya ng Bayan (MB); 243 Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL); 101 Hingpit na Organisadong Masa (HOM); 36 Kilusang Rebolusyonaryo sa Baryo (KRB); 22 Kometing Tig-organisa (KTO); and 3, 818 mass supporters.
The brigade was also able to recover a total of 159 firearms broken down into 75 High Powered and 84 Low Powered; 72 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) gained and discovery/seizure of 52 enemy encampments.
Meanwhile, Col Saret, the newly installed Brigade Commander is a member of PMA (MARINGAL) Class of 1988 a former Deputy Brigade Commander of the 1001st Brigade and a former Battalion Commander of 25th Infantry (Fireball) Battalion also controlled by the unit.
Saret is a responsible family man and a humble leader, a true warrior and advocate of Peace and Security. His thrust in his command is to continue the gains in line with its campaign to significantly defeat the CNTs in the Brigade AOR.
“We will bring peace to those who want peace but we will fight hard to those who insist to fight,” Saret said.
