ComVal conducts Family Development Session

Compostela Valley Province— A two-day Family Development Session (FDS) was initiated by the provincial government through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on September 17, 2017 at Barangay Concepcion, Maco.

With a total of 106 attendees, the activity aims to impart knowledge to the parents of the Adopt-a-Child beneficiaries about responsible parenthood, family planning method, proper food preparation and the importance of drinking milk for children.

According to Amado Cortes from PHO, the FDS is in relation to the upcoming culmination activity of the 7th batch of adopt-a-child beneficiaries this coming September 26, 2017. This is to help the parents in sustaining the nutritional balance of their child.

Adopt-a-child is primarily funded by the capitol employees who aim to help undernourished kids. This is another “bayanihan”-inspired program started by former governor and now Senior Board Member Arturo Uy and has since been adopted by Gov. Tyron Uy. The employees voluntarily pool their resources together to help children who are nutritionally inadequate because of poverty, poor sanitation and poor health seeking behavior.

The recent adopt-a-child beneficiaries consist of those whose weight failed to attain the normal weight after undergoing the Kusina ng Kalinga Program, which is another health and nutrition program of the province.

“Daghang salamat ani nga programa kay nakita gyud nako ang ilang pagkugi sa mga focal nga matag semana adtuon gyud ug hatdan pagkaon ang akong bata,” said Roel Ang, one of the parent-participants.

He added  “Dako kaayo akong kalipay kay nagbalik na sa normal nga timbang ang akong anak nga gikan sa 22 kilos karon 28 kilos na sya”. (Jazel Sarte//ids Comval)
