Intensive Training on Social Media for Rural Development held

Davao City – The Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP) under the Department of Agriculture (DA) conducted a training-workshop on Social Media for Rural Development on August 29 to September 1 at We R Inn Hotel, Bajada, Davao City.

The PRDP is a World Bank-funded program spearheaded by the DA which was designed to establish an inclusive and market-oriented agri-fishery sector through strategic investments in priority commodities, value chain analysis and infrastructure development and improvements.

A total of 27 participants consist of Provincial and City InfoAce throughout Mindanao who joined the said training. An intensive learning session on the basic use, strategies and management of Social Media Platforms was conducted.

According to PRDP-Mindanao information unit head Sherwin Manual that the objective of this training is to acquire knowledge on social media communication principle and platforms and to draw more traffic to respective social accounts.

It also generates visibility and awareness of PRDP intervention and to gain insights on effectively implementing social media strategies and tactics and creating information/advocacy campaigns.

Social media allows immediate dissemination of important and emerging issues and positive information and provide ways to engage and communicate with the agricultural and rural communities. (Jazel Sarte//ids comval)
