In Comval: Acts of greatheartedness in far-flung Barangays of Panansalan and Pagsabangan
Compostela Valley Province– Not all heroes wear capes, some wear smiles on their faces with the spirit of volunteerism. The “OPLAN PAGBABAGO: BAYANIHAN SA PAARALAN 2019“ was made possible by the participation of different volunteers with various skills and talents who comprised the success of the projects.
In line with the “Oplan Pagbabago: Bayanihan sa Paaralan 2019“ various initiatives were also given by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to the residents of Sitio Bongloi, Pagsabangan, New Bataan and in Panansalan, Compostela during the 20 days duration of the bayanihan build.
Among the trainings offered by TESDA were massage therapy, haircut, table skirting and nail care. “Dako kaayo akong pasalamat nga natukuran nami diri ug eskwelahan ug nasulbad na among problema. Nalipay pod mi kay nagtukod sila ug building ug kami mga parents naa pod mi nakat-onan sa ilahang gihatag sama sa massage therapy, haircut, table skirting ug nail care ug magamit kaayo namo among nakat-onan para maka income,” said Joliefe Y. Basta, a 30-year old parent of Panansalan.
Both sites belong to the Geographically Isolated and Depressed Areas or GIDA. In Sitio Bongloi, Pagsabangan, a fare of 600 pesos is needed to reach Bantacan, New Bataan, an amount that comprise a weekly budget of a single household in Sitio Bongloi. Livelihoods in both sites were farming and raising of chickens, goats, pigs and vegetables for consumption and to generate income for their daily needs.

“Challenging siya in terms sa mga estudyante kay dili pa kaayo sila kabalo mu comprehend dati, pero at the same time fulfilling pod kay karun makita na nako ilahang improvement kumpara adtong niagi. Nindot siya sa pamati.” said Jelly A. Babacal, the newly assigned teacher of BIS.
Amidst all the volunteers, volunteers from the Knights of Rizal Agricultural Endeavor Foundation Inc. or KRAEFI was reigned as the best volunteer awardee in Sitio Bongloi, Panansalan. Even though their group experienced bullying in terms of them joining volunteers in far flung areas, “ Mubalik man gani nang natagam, kana pa hinoong nahigam,” said Francis M. Almasa, Information Officer of KRAEFI. #YEStoDavaoDeOro (Jasteen P. Abella, ID COMVAL)
