Comval Province launches “Oplan Bagong Buhay”
Compostela Valley Province – Drug dependents who have chosen to surrender and begin a new turn are given benefits now that the province of Compostela Valley has launched the Oplan Bagong Buhay, a rehabilitation and reintegration program for the offenders of the Dangerous Drugs Act who availed of plea bargaining agreements.
The program’s launch was held at the Social Hall at the provincial capitol building on July 5, 2019, where the event was attended by supporting agencies of the Oplan Bagong Buhay program, which includes the Public Attorney’s Office, Parole and Probation Office, Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, DDE, TESDA, PDRRMO, PSDVRP, PSWD PRC, and many others.
“Dili nato ihikaw ang ikaduhang tsansa diha sa atong mga kaigsoonang nahisaag sa tamang dalan. Tabangan nato sila aron mahimo silang produktibong miyembro sa atong komunidad.” Governor Tyron L. Uy said on his Facebook post of the program
The focus of the program is to help the offenders on the implication of their acts and the consequences of their non-compliance on the recommendation in the Drug Dependency Assessment Report, as well as to provide counseling services, psychosocial interventions towards values and restoration of family relationships, and provide health awareness in the case of a relapse and effect on the dependents’ general health.
The conduct of the plea bargaining was granted by the Supreme Court for those charged with drug related offenses. Judge Cresenciana DC. Cruz also made mention that Comval Province has a number of alleged violators of illegal drugs who have now received their benefits and help from the government.
The main target group of the program are the Illegal Drug Offenders for Reform (IDOR) who are residents of Compostela Valley and those who have had their conviction handed by Regional Trial Courts within and outside of the province. #YEStoDavaoDeOro (Sean Seismundo, ID Comval / Photo by: Maryel Lasaca)
